Weingut Altydgedacht
Altydgedacht is a historic family winery dating back to 1698, where longstanding traditions and modern methods combine to create wines of first-class quality and unmistakable character.
Since 1852 the winery has been owned by the Parker family. Brothers John and Oliver take advantage of the different soil types, varying slopes and microclimates to grow high quality and noble grape varieties. Winemaker Oliver produces wines of distinct character and distinctive varietal flavors and aromas associated with the famous Durbanville wine region.
Altydgedacht is located 15 km from the Atlantic Ocean in one of the coolest wine growing regions in South Africa. The cool sea breezes ensure a moderate climate. This cooling effect means that the ripening time of the grapes is significantly prolonged, which in turn means an excellent potential for high quality first class wines. The wines are matured in oak, depending on the grape variety, in order to complement the wonderful fruity notes and achieve great complexity.
For Altydgedacht's award-winning wines, the estate grows white varieties such as Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Hanepoot, Sauvignon Blanc, White Riesling and Viognier, as well as the red varieties Barbera, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Gamay, Merlot, Shiraz and Pinotage.
The results are interesting and exciting "Cool Climate" wines of distinctive and unmistakable pleasure!
