The Quinta do Vale Meão, today is one of the best wine producers of the Douro. The history of the winery is legendary and refers to the famous winemaker D. Antonia Adelaide Ferreira, the "Ferreirinha", who died in 1896. The Quinta is still owned by the family today.

The key figures of the winery are Vito and Xito Olazábal - two of the most famous and charismatic personalities of the Douro. The legendary Barca Velha wine was developed here and produced until 1998. Xito Olazábal is Vale do Meão's winemaker. In 1999, the Quinta do Vale Meão made a special name for itself. Both the Portuguese and international press praised the harvests in the highest tones. The press described the Quinta's wines as exceptional.
