The historic wine farm Spier is located in South Africa's picturesque Cape Winelands. Founded in 1692, Spier was one of the first farms to establish itself in Stellenbosch.

Its rich cultural heritage includes the restored manor house with an impressive number of Cape Dutch gables and the oldest dated wine cellar in South Africa. Wine growing began on Spier as early as 1700. More recently, Spier's wines have received numerous awards and recognitions both domestically and internationally. Spier's wines have been produced since 1995 under the experienced guidance of the cellar master Frans Smit. The fact that Spier has named its flagship 5-star Bordeuax-style cuvée after Frans Smit in honour of his cellar master speaks for itself and needs no further explanation.
