Under the management of owner Francis Patt and winemaker David Nieuwoudt, The Berrio Wines, located in the southernmost tip of South Africa in the Elim wine region, produces highly endowed and award-winning wines, including The Berrio Weather Girl, The Berrio Shiraz and The Berrio Sauvignon Blanc.
South Africa's Elim wine region is characterised by strong maritime winds and, through regular cooling, allows the grapes to spend longer periods on the vine and to mature slowly. This in turn produces wines of great intensity and stunning complexity.
The opportunity for Francis Patt, one of the first pioneering spirits of the Elim Wine Region, to become a pioneer is closely linked to his family's incredibly interesting history and genealogy. The blend of different bloodlines and craftsmanship of past centuries form a successful recipe for THE ideal winemaker: take a good dose of English diplomatic history and beauty, a generous pinch of sharp entrepreneurial spirit, several generations of African-born farmer's daughters with excellent dowries, an accomplished and fully trained pianist with a love of music, French elegance and several generations of dedicated and hard-working farmers.
