Weingut Vrede en Lust
The story of Vrede en Lust tells of passion, vision and reawakening, and goes back to 1688 when the Flemish merchant Jacques de Savoye arrived in the Cape with the French Huguenots.
Since then Vrede en Lust has changed hands many times. When the wine farm was transferred to present ownership by the Buys family, in 1996, Vrede en Lust had found its 17th owner. The family embarked on a fundamental renewal programme in order to be able to fully exploit the remarkable potential for producing first-class wines. Today, the three different vineyards are planted with the most suitable grape varieties in terms of soil type, slope and different microclimates. Most of the white grapes come from the farm's own vineyards in the cool Elgin region, while the majority of the red varieties come from the warmer growing areas of the Simonsberg-Paarl region.
Vrede en Lust's philosophy in wine production is quite simple - to create honest, high quality wines that uniquely reflect their terroir with minimal intervention in the winery's operations. A philosophy with great success all along the line!
