Andre Adriaan (Adi) Badenhorst's grandfather was born on South Africa's famous and oldest winery Groot Constantia and was the manager of the estate for 46 years. He also worked on the neighbouring farms Buitenverwachting and Constantia Uitsig for many years. Adi grew up in the vineyards and spent his childhood picking (and pinching) grapes. When Buitenverwachting's winemaker, Jean Daneel, let 13-year-old Adi make his first wine, it was clear to Adi that the art of winemaking was his true vocation. After graduating in oenology from the famous Elsenburg University, he spent some time picking grapes at Chateau Angelus in Bordeaux, Alain Graillot in the north of France's famous Rhône wine region, and Wither Hills in New Zealand.

He spent some time in renowned wineries in South Africa such as Simonsig, Steenberg and Groote Post. He worked as a winemaker at Stellenbosch's famous Rustenberg Winery for over 9 years. In 2008 he finally acquired, together with his cousin Hein, his own winery on 60 hectares of land in the Paardeberg wine region. Today they proudly produce their own natural wines under organic farming methods, which are produced according to traditional methods. Adi Badenhorst is one of South Africa's top award-winning winemakers with his characterful wines.
